Franklinton Rising opens its doors to individuals interested in exploring construction as a career option. Starting with a comprehensive job application process, the organization accepts anyone eager to discover their potential in the building trades. An annual intake of 15-25 at-risk young adults, sourced through referrals from high schools, churches, and local organizations, addresses the pressing issue of youth unemployment in Franklin County.
With an emphasis on trust and positive role modeling, Franklinton Rising initiates a mentorship and skill-building program for at-risk young adults. Through a nationally recognized Introduction to the Building Trades program, including OSHA 10 training, trainees are equipped with both technical skills and essential life skills. The organization fosters a supportive environment with consistent mentoring, evening classes, and exposure to Christian principles, encouraging personal growth and a sense of purpose.
To combat neighborhood blight and criminal activity, Franklinton Rising takes a proactive stance by acquiring vacant and blighted houses. These properties serve as practical training laboratories, allowing hands-on experience for trainees while contributing to the revitalization of distressed neighborhoods. By addressing the housing crisis, the organization plays a pivotal role in enhancing community safety and overall well-being.
Trainees at Franklinton Rising engage in a part-time employment model, receiving graduated pay rates aligned with their learning progress. Working under the guidance of experienced professionals and the Director of Training/Construction, trainees actively contribute to the rebuilding process of houses. This phased approach, involving 1-3 houses, ensures a gradual transition to full-time employment, nurturing a supportive and sustainable career pathway.
Distinguishing itself from conventional remodeling, Franklinton Rising commits to rebuilding houses from the ground up, surpassing the original standards. With 100% new infrastructure, including mechanicals, roofs, exteriors, and interiors, the organization transforms these houses into modern, efficient, and affordable homes. The redesigned spaces feature contemporary amenities, promoting a sense of community pride and well-being.
Upon completing the program and graduating high school, trainees are empowered to self-select a trade of interest. Franklinton Rising facilitates interviews with reputable companies, ensuring a seamless transition from the training program to fulfilling careers in the construction industry. The organization actively collaborates with employers to create opportunities for upward mobility and sustainable employment.
Former trainees, now employed in the building trades, are offered the chance to rent or purchase houses they contributed to rebuilding. This initiative forms a positive cycle, promoting individual responsibility and community advancement. By intertwining the restoration of lives with the rejuvenation of houses, Franklinton Rising envisions a holistic approach to reducing poverty and fostering positive change in neighborhoods.
